The FSC U-16 Girls coached by JR Hemp and Ray Merrill battled their way to the championship game at the Couer d'Alene Hot Shot tourmnament over the weekend of May 14-15, 2011.
On Saturday they played the Sandpoint Strikers to a 0-0 tie in a very evenly matched game that had quality scoring opportinities for both teams. Later Saturday, they took on Glacier United in a game that they ended up winning 3-1. A second half goal by Glacier ended a seven game shutout streak for the FSC girls and placed they in a difficult position going into Sundays game. Not only did the girls need to win but they needed some help to make the championship game from Glacier United.
Going into Sunday, if both FSC and Sanpoint were to win their matches, FSC would need Glacier to score at least 1 goal on Sandpoint for them to make it to the championship game because the tie breaker would first be head to head and then goals against, and Sandpoint had not been scored upon in thier first 2 matches. On Sunday, a late second half goal lifted the girls to a 1-0 win over a tough CDA Sting team and propelled them into the championship game where they faced the Moscow United. In the pouring rain, the FSC girls played Mosow to a 1-1 tie in regulation and pulled out the victory by a 2-1 margin in penalty kicks. Congratulations to the girls!
